Team Preview
Twelve of the top men’s teams and twelve of the top women’s teams from all over the world are ready to hit the ice at Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling tour.
Let’s meet up with some of the most prominent of them.
Team Kerri Einarson
The world’s top women’s club is Team Kerri Einarson, two-time Princess Auto Players’ Championship winners. Einarson is top in the Pinty’s Cup standings with 39 points, eight ahead of Rachel Homan’s team, and has reached six consecutive finals in the Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling.
Team Anna Hasselborg
The current winners, Team Anna Hasselborg, made history a year ago when they won all four tournaments to become the first women’s club to complete a career Grand Slam.
Team Niklas Edin & Team Brad Gushue
Team Niklas Edin, Olympic and world champions, is the top men’s club. They reached three Grand Slam finals this season and won the HearingLife Tour Challenge in spite of losing their skip to a knee injury.
Edin leads the Pinty’s Cup men’s standings with 35 points, four ahead of Team Brad Gushue, who started the Grand Slam season by defeating Edin in the BOOST National final.
Team Bruce Mouat
Following their triumphs in the Calgary bubble in 2021, Team Bruce Mouat will try to become the first team to win three straight Princess Auto Players’ Championship men’s titles.
Team Joël Retornaz & Team Brendan Bottcher
Both Team Jol Retornaz, winners of the WFG Masters, and Team Brendan Bottcher, winners of the Co-op Canadian Open, are in the running for the Pinty’s Cup with 24 points each. The Princess Auto Players’ Championship offers approximately double the points available, thus the race for the Pinty’s Cup will undoubtedly be close.
