Canelo vs. Ryder takes place on May 6. The main card starts at 7 p.m. ET | 4 p.m. PT | 12 a.m. BST | 9 a.m. AEST. The main event fighters should make their way to the ring around 11 p.m. ET | 8 p.m. PT | 4 a.m. BST | 1 p.m. AEST, depending on how long the undercard fights last.
Canelo needs a big performance against Ryder to clear the path for his revenge fight against Russia’s Dimitry Bivol. Canelo has struggled in his last couple of outings where he struggled to get into a groove and land significant on his opponents’ frame.
A dominant performance will surely keep him in the mix to vouch for that Bivol fight that he has been longing for so desperately.
The fighters faced off during the press conference on Wednesday, among the cheers of the Mexican fans who were there to support their native pugilist.
Canelo, 32, was happy to be back in his hometown and give his fans the fight which they richly deserve for their unprecedented backing over the years.
“I feel happy to be back in happy with the people who support me in the beginning,” he told BBC Sport.
“I feel great. It’s unbelievable the things I’ve done all my life and all my career. I’m glad to be here, coming as the best fight. I’m bringing this fight to the people. It’s an honour for me.”
While for Ryder, it’s an uphill task, a mountain to climb but if he manages to pull off a victory this Saturday, it will be regarded as the biggest upset in modern-day boxing. Ryder is going into the ring with Canelo at the ideal time, with the former P4P king unable to impress the audience in his last two outings.
Ryder (32-5, 18 KOs) is on a 4 fights winning streak with his latest triumph coming against Zach Parker. This was as perfect as it could get as he finished Parker inside the fourth round. Ryder is high on confidence and ready to spoil the homecoming party of Canelo.
“I don’t feel like there’s any real pressure on me,” he told BBC Sport.
“It’s Canelo’s first time back in Mexico in nearly 12 years. I think he needs this to get back and win the hearts of the Mexicans and show he is a true Mexican fighter.”
Fair to say it’s Canelo who will be feeling the pressure as Britain’s fighter has nothing to lose here. Canelo will head into the bout as a heavy favourite but Ryder posses the ability to shock the world as he has dynamite in his right hand to knock the lights off on his day.
