With the majority of the continent’s best athletes in attendance, the latest edition of the European Championship looks set to deliver even more of the thrilling action for which it has become known.

Konstantine Janashia, who finished third last year, will return to Leeds for his fifth attempt at the European title. The Georgian is a three-time podium finisher at Europe’s Strongest Man, with his best finish being second place behind Hafthór Björnsson in 2018. Last year, his best events were the Deadlift Ladder, which he won, and Atlas Stones, in which he finished third in. He will have to contend with a Log Ladder this year, but with a best of 202.5kg (446lb), which is one of the highest in the field, he should still place highly.

 2023 ESM’s  Events

Two weeks later, the five events that comprise the single-day 2023 ESM contest were released. They are as follows:

  • Log Press Ladder
  • Load & Push Race
  • Deadlift for Reps
  • Conan’s Wheel
  • Castle Stones

Adam Bishop, two-time Britain’s Strongest Man, will be looking to make his mark after a dominant performance in Sheffield in January. Last year’s competition was postponed while the former professional rugby player recovered from a triceps rupture caused by a training accident. The extent to which his arm has healed will be put to the test in the opening Log Ladder event as he looks to be back near his best at Britain’s.
