The ISU Four Continents Figure Skating Championships, which feature the top international skaters from outside of Europe, continue the figure skating season in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Four Continents is the final major event before the World Championships, which will be held in Saitama, Japan, next month. Europe crowned its champions two weeks ago in Espoo, Finland. The event will last from the 9th to the 12th of February.
The event this week begins on Thursday with the Pairs’ Short Program, Rhythm Dance, and Women’s Short Program and concludes on Sunday with the Men’s Free Skate. Some of the biggest names in US figure skating, such as Nathan Chen and Vincent Zhou, will not compete. As a result, some new stars, such as Ilia Malinin, could emerge in this year’s competition.

Canada and the United States will send entire teams to this event, with three competitors in each of the four disciplines, whereas Japan will send three men, three women, two ice dance teams, and one pairs group.
With so many top men competing, it will be a fight to the finish, and whoever ends up on the top step of the podium will have earned it. Ilia Malinin, eighteen, is the favorite to win his first senior men’s national title after becoming the first skater to land the quad axel in competition earlier this season. This year, he had the world’s second-best score, more than 38 points ahead of his closest American rival, Camden Pulkinen.
Isabeau Levito, 15, arrives as both the future of US women’s figure skating and the favorite to win gold, much like Malinin did on the men’s side. Levito finished second a year ago but was too young to compete in the Olympics, so she finished second in both Grand Prix assignments and the Grand Prix Final this season.
