Georgia Vs. TCU Matchups
Under the direction of first-year head coach Sonny Dykes, the TCU Horned Frogs concluded the regular season with a perfect 12-0 record and finished Big 12 play at 9-0. With a 12-1 record, TCU finished first in the Big 12 and advanced to the conference final. However, they were beaten by Kansas State. Because they were chosen for that position in the College Football Playoff, it had no effect on their No. 3 ranking (CFP). No. 2 Michigan was upset 51-45 by the Horned Frogs in the Fiesta Bowl quarterfinal.
Georgia faced and defeated two rated FBS teams, Oregon and Tennessee, during their 12-game regular season. The Missouri game was their closest win by four points; all of their previous victories were by at least ten points. Georgia defeated LSU 50-30 in the SEC Championship Game to earn a spot there. Georgia and No. 4 Ohio State were paired in the Peach Bowl quarterfinal because both teams had overall records of 13-0. With three seconds left in the game, Ohio State kicker Noah Ruggles’ potentially game-winning 50-yard field goal attempt went wide left, giving Georgia a chance to win 42-41 after Ohio State had a 38-24 lead in the third quarter.
