Canada’s defence of its 2023 IIHF Women’s World Championship crown resumes on Thursday when it faces Sweden in a quarterfinal matchup. The Canadians have made it through group play unscathed. They defeated Switzerland (4-0), the Czech Republic (5-2), and Japan (5-0) before facing the United States (5-0). The Canadians also prevailed over the United States in a shootout, this time by a score of 4-3. The Americans scored twice in the final 39 seconds to force overtime after it appeared they were headed to a 3-1 victory. However, Canada won the shootout thanks to a goal by Jamie Lee Rattray.
