At Daytona International Speedway, a brand-new era of American endurance racing has begun, and Tom Blomqvist has the honor of leading the opening hour of the 61st running of the Rolex 24 Hours.
Blomqvist has been in the lead when the green flag was dropped at 1:41 PM Eastern time while driving the #60 Meyer Shank Racing with Curb-Agajanian Acura ARX-06. The defending Rolex 24 and IMSA premier class champion team got off to a scorching start.
Four manufacturers will compete in the GTP category, including two that are brand-new to IMSA’s top level. LMDh prototypes will be fielded by Porsche Motorsport (with Team Penske) and BMW (with Rahal Letterman Lanigan), joining the remaining teams from the DPi category (now extinct) for Acura (Meyer Shank Racing, Wayne Taylor Racing), and Cadillac (Chip Ganassi Racing, Action Express Racing).
