On February 17th, the tournament of Hearts began in Kamloops, British Columbia. For the third year in a row, it featured an 18-team field with participation from every province and territory. Two Ontario teams of Ontario and Northern Ontario, Team Canada’s reigning champions, and three Wildcard teams are among the teams fighting for the championship title.
The annual competition decides Canada’s representative at the World Women’s Curling Championships. In addition, the winning club receives a monetary reward and gold rings with the Tournament of Hearts logo’s four hearts. Kerri Einarson and Team Canada moved out of their pool, keeping the prospects of a four-peat alive at the tournament. Einarson’s team won the tournament three times: in 2020, 2021, and 2022.

The champion of the 2023 Scotties will also represent Canada in the LGT World Women’s Curling Championship in addition to $100,000. The tournament will take place in mid-March, and it will be held in Sandviken, Sweden, from March 18 to March 26. A fourth victory for Einarson would imply something different for her squad. That would allow them to represent Canada outside of Canada for the first time.
