Report: Trump To Select Kristi Noem As Homeland Security Secretary

Noem made controversial headlines after she revealed she shot her 14 month old dog, Cricket.

President-elect Donald Trump is selecting South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem as his Homeland Security secretary, according to a report.

CNN reported early Tuesday morning that Noem will be tapped to take over the agency. This comes after Trump announced Tom Homan, his former acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement director, will serve as “border czar” in his administration. Meanwhile, Stephen Miller will return as Chief of Staff to policy with the expectation he will drive immigration policy.

Noem made controversial headlines after she published her new book: “No Going Back: The Truth on What’s Wrong with Politics and How We Move America Forward.” In the book, she revealed killed her 14-month-old wirehair pointer, Cricket, by shooting the dog because it was not a hunting dog.

She claimed the dog was “untrainable,” according to excerpts first reported by The Guardian.

If Noem accepts the job, she will be overseeing several departments, including the US Customs and Border Protection and Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the US Secret Service.
