SAN ANTONIO — Juan Agudelo’s first half goal was enough to lift San Antonio FC to a 1-0 victory over Memphis 901 FC at Toyota Field on Saturday night, snapping a four-match winless streak.

The victory was SAFC’s first since April 20 and their first win at home since March 30.

“I’m incredibly proud of the team’s mentality over the course of 90-plus minutes to be so resilient with less than 60% of the roster available,” SAFC Head Coach Alen Marcina said. “It’s a testament to the guys’ character and testament to their fight and yeah, just really proud of them in the moment.”

Here are two key moments from SAFC’s win over Memphis:

Staying clean

San Antonio earned their first clean sheet as goalkeeper Kendall McIntosh recorded four total saves in his first clean sheet for the club, while the defense blocked nine of 17 total shots from Memphis.

The clean sheet is the third of the season for San Antonio.

“In the moment, Memphis is leading the Western Conference with most goals scored,” Marcina said. “Arguably right now, in the moment, Marlon [Santos] is probably the hottest attacker in the league, so to keep a clean sheet was incredibly challenging, but we’re resilient and the guys deserve three points.”

Pushing through

Despite multiple injuries and international call ups, San Antonio pushed through the adversity to grab the win and move up to fourth place in the Western Conference standings.

“It was a big battle against a good opponent, a team that’s in our conference, and it was a huge three points because we keep climbing the table with that one,” Agudelo said.

San Antonio FC will now have a few days to rest before returning to the pitch on Wednesday to host the El Paso Locomotive at 8 p.m. at Toyota Field.
