PHILADEPHIA — President Joe Biden touted his administration’s accomplishments on clean energy manufacturing Thursday during a speech in Philadelphia.

The Story: Speaking at the Philly Shipyard, Biden focused on both clean energy and unions as several strikes are currently ongoing.

  • “All this investment means good paying jobs here at home,” Biden said. “We’re making sure these new jobs come free and fair and the ability to join a union if you’re not already in one.”
  • Earlier in the day, the White House announced the first offshore wind lease sale in the Gulf of Mexico.
  • “When I think climate, I think jobs,” Biden said. “I think union jobs. Not a joke.”

Why it matters: The power generator will bring an estimated $125 million in economic activity every year.

  • 1,000 workers across nine unions have been employed to begin the construction and building of the generators.
  • Focusing on unions is not a mistake for the Biden campaign with the writer’s strike in Hollywood ongoing and a looming strike by UPS employees.

“I made a commitment that I’d be the most pro-union president in American history, and I’m keeping that promise,” the President said.

Going deeper: Biden traveling the country to promote “Bidenomics” comes as the majority of Americans do not feel the President has done enough on the economy.

  • Biden’s economic approval rating sits at 37%, up only 3% from April.
