Jan. 6 Committee Releases Final Report To Public

WASHINGTON (Fwrd Axis) — The House Select Committee investigating the January 6 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol released its final report on Thursday night, capping off an 18-month probe that has led to multiple criminal referrals of former President Donald Trump over his efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

The committee released its final report, consisting of over 800 pages late Thursday, just days after voting unanimously to approve multiple criminal referrals for Trump as he makes a third bid for the White House in 2024.

The committee has long said they believe there is enough evidence for the Justice Department to prosecute Trump on four major charges, including giving aid or comfort to an insurrection. If convicted of giving aid or comfort to an insurrection, it would bar Trump from ever “holding any public office within the United States”.

“Among the most shameful of this committee’s findings was that President Trump sat in the dining room off the Oval Office watching the violent riot at the Capitol on television. No man who would behave that way at that moment in time can ever serve in any position of authority in our nation again,” Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) said during Monday’s hearing. “He is unfit for any office.”

Nearly all of the witnesses during the hearings were Republicans as they testified on the record about how Trump and his inner circle worked tirelessly to sow doubt among Trump’s loyal supporters regarding Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 election.

Earlier Thursday, the panel released testimony from former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson, who had testified that Trump was aware the mob was armed before they went to the Capitol.

“The central cause of January 6th was one man, former President Donald Trump, whom many others followed. None of the events of January 6th would have happened without him,” Committee Chairman Benny Thompson (D-Miss.) said in a statement.
