Raiders DE Carl Nassib Becomes First Active NFL Player To Come Out As Gay

The 28-year-old made history as the first openly gay active player in the NFL.

Las Vegas Raiders defensive end has come out as gay, he announced in a video on Instagram Monday in a historic first for the NFL.

The 28-year-old said he wanted to announce this personal news in order to increase visibility and made history as the first openly gay active player in the NFL.

“I actually hope that one day videos like this and the whole coming out process are just not necessary, but until then, I am going to do my best and do my part to cultivate a culture that is accepting, that is compassionate,” Nassib said.

The NFL responded to the news in a tweet by saying “The NFL family is proud of you, Carl”.

Michael Sam was the first openly gay NFL draftee in 2014 and was drafted by the St. Louis Rams but never played a game in the league.
