The San Antonio Spurs kicked off NBA free agency on Friday afternoon by locking up two of their role players for the foreseeable future as the team enters an exciting new era.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported the Spurs and point guard Tre Jones have agreed to a two-year, $20 million deal. Jones’ agent, Kevin Bradbury of LIFT Sports, confirmed the agreement to Wojnarowski.
Jones will return to San Antonio after averaging 12.9 points, 6.6 assists, and 1.3 steals while shooting 45.9% from the field during the 2022-23 season. However, it remains to be seen if he will retain his starting role as rumors have suggested the Spurs are looking to add a veteran point guard in the offseason.
Wojnarowski also reported San Antonio has agreed to a four-year deal with forward Julian Champagnie worth $12 million, with the final year being a team option.
Champagnie joined the Spurs last season on a two-way contract for their final 15 games. He impressed coach Gregg Popovich as he averaged 11 points and four rebounds while shooting over 40% from three-point range.
With the two signings, San Antonio will have $30.8 in space to use on free agents.
