Reports: Dr. Scott Atlas Resigns as Trump’s Coronavirus Special Adviser

Atlas leaves White House post after a controversial 130-day stint.

WASHINGTON – Dr. Scott Atlas, the controversial member of President Donald Trump’s coronavirus task force, has officially resigned from his position, according to reports.

Atlas turned in his resignation letter to Mr. Trump on Monday as his 130-day window in which he could serve as a special government employee was closing this week. The White House has not put on a statement on the news as of this writing.

In his months-long tenure, Atlas’ time was marred by controversy. He used discredited theories, pushing for the resumption of college sports against the advice of scientists, and calling for the schools across the country to reopen.

Twitter removed a tweet from the doctor back in October after he undermined the scientists and doctors calls for all Americans to wear a mask and keep social distancing. The social media site said the tweet violated its Covid-19 Misleading Information Policy.

Fox News obtained a copy of Atlas’ letter and he praised the “great work” the Trump administration did on handling the coronavirus pandemic and wished “all the best” to the incoming Biden administration.

“As time went on, like all scientists and health policy scholars, I learned new information and synthesized the latest data from around the world, all in an effort to provide you with the best information to serve the greater public good,” Atlas wrote. “But, perhaps more than anything, my advice was always focused on minimizing all the harms from both the pandemic and the structural policies themselves, especially to the working class and the poor.”

Atlas went on to defend the record of his time in the White House expertise, saying his advice to Mr. Trump was all done based on the “current science”.

“I congratulate you for your vision, and also congratulate the many who did the exemplory work—we know who they are, even though their names are not those familiar to the public,” Atlas wrote.
