PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA (Fwrd Axis) – On Sunday, September 11, the City of Brotherly Love hosted the greatest band to walk to planet. They’ve played open mic nights to pay the rent. They sought – and found – the fabled “Pick of Destiny,” arose from the ashes and survived the Apocalypse. Yes, of course I’m talking about the one and only Tenacious D.

Jack Black and Kyle Gass have continuously displayed that they are more than a novelty act with crass songs, but are true virtuosic contenders in the world of music with songs that are actually good and do, in fact, rock hard. They’ve also highlighted the importance of what it takes to be a rock star, from inward singing to the incredibly useful “c–k push-up” routine. These are pearls of wisdom that only the most wise musicians possess and the wisdom is invaluable.

The D are currently touring this month and their stop in Philadelphia was a truly special occasion. All jokes aside, Black and Gass are passionate advocates for democracy and educating the public about voting rights and the importance of having our voices heard in the name of improving the country’s quality of life of all of the citizens in the United States. They have partnered with Rock The Vote to carry this message to the masses. The live-streamed performance, in cooperation with nugs.net, benefitted Rock The Vote by way of ticket sales, with 100% of net proceeds being donated to the organization.
