Tim Scott Teases ‘Major Announcement’ On May 22

If he launches a bid for the White House as expected, Scott would be entering a growing GOP field that includes former President Donald Trump, who is seen as the frontrunner.

Republican Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) on Sunday teased a “major announcement” on May 22, amid speculation he will announce his run for the White House and enter the race for the 2024 GOP presidential primary.

The news comes after Scott launched a presidential exploratory earlier this month and has made several trips to Iowa, the first contest in the 2024 GOP primary, several times over the past few weeks.

“Please tell your friends. Be in attendance,” Scott said Sunday at an event in Charleston, South Carolina. “We’re going to have a major announcement, and you’re going to want to be there.”

The South Carolina Republican has been focused on “Faith in America” during his trips, a theme he may use during his potential presidential campaign. Scott has also emphasized his evangelical faith, his race, and growing up as the son of a single mother.

“I believe there’s nothing wrong with the American people. We just need a new American government to unleash the American spirit,” Scott said Sunday. “I believe this so thoroughly that it is time to take the Faith in America tour not just on the road, not just to an exploratory committee.”

Scott’s popularity among the GOP voters has grown in the past year following his response to President Joe Biden’s address to a joint session of Congress in 2021.

If he launches a bid for the White House as expected, Scott would be entering a growing GOP field that includes former President Donald Trump, who is seen as the frontrunner, former ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley, “anti-woke” biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, and radio host Larry Elder.

Florida governor Ron DeSantis and former Vice President Mike Pence are also reportedly weighing options as to seek the GOP nomination. Pence said last week he would make a decision before June.

“If we have an announcement to make, it will be well before late June,” Pence said.
