SAN DIEGO — The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for parts of Southern California after Tropical Storm Hilary made landfall overnight.
Downtown Los Angeles and Ventura County were included in the advisory as the storm brings heavy rain. The Ontario International Airport has suspended all Southwest Airlines and Frontier Airlines flights.
Tropical storm warnings are in effect for over 42 million people in Southern California as Hilary becomes the first storm to hit California since Nora in 1997.
Prior to making landfall, Hilary was a Category 4 hurricane but weakened as it got closer to the West Coast. Rain is expected to continue into Monday for Los Angeles and parts of Arizona.
Flood watches are in effect from Southern California and Arizona to Oregon and Idaho.
