Gerry Turner, a 71-year-old retired restaurateur, was announced Monday as the leading man of ABC’s highly anticipated spinoff The Golden Bachelor.
The Story: The Golden Bachelor is a spin-off of The Bachelor, the popular dating show that premiered in 2002.
- The spin-off will focus on the older generation of people looking for love in what ABC is calling “their golden years”.
- “It’s never too late to fall in love again,” Turner said. “Don’t give up, there are always possibilities.”
- ABC describes the 71-year-old as someone who is “hosting barbecues, playing pickleball, cheering on his favorite Chicago sports teams, four-wheeling”.
- Despite the older generation twist, the show structure will remain the same with Turner handing out roses to his favorite contestants.
Going deeper: Turner comes to the show after his wife of 43 years passed away in 2017 after becoming ill just six weeks after she retired.
- “She got robbed. Every day that goes by, that’s the thought that I have,” Turner told Good Morning America.
The Golden Bachelor premieres this fall on ABC.
