CHICAGO (Fwrd Axis) – British popstar Dua Lipa returned to the United States to perform on Friday for the first time since March. It marked her first performance in the states since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and Lipa had a message for her fans: ‘I stand by you.’

Dua Lipa headlined the second day of the Lollapalooza festival at Grant Park. During a break between performances, she spoke to the crowd of 120,000 people, thanked her fans for their support, and spoke out in support of women’s rights.

“Thank you so much for standing by me,” she said. “I feel like we need to stand by each other more than ever now, especially at a time like this. I haven’t done shows in America since March and I feel like a lot of things have changed since coming back. I just want to say, stand up for women’s rights, stand up against racial injustice, stand up for the LGBTQ community, stand up for each other and I’m here to stand up for you in whatever way I can, I promise.”

The U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade back on June 24, causing protests and backlash from women in the United States and around the world. Lipa posted her reaction to the news on Instagram a day later, showing support for the women in the United States and posting resources for those who may need them.

Lipa is not the only pop star who voiced her displeasure with the Supreme Court. During her set at England’s Glastonbury Festival, Olivia Rodrigo blasted the Court’s decision in front of the packed crowd, who booed in response.

“I’m devastated and terrified. So many women and so many girls are going to die because of this,” she said. “I wanted to dedicate this next song to the five members of the Supreme Court who have showed us that at the end of the day, they truly don’t give a shit about freedom. The song is for the justices: Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, Amy Coney Barrett, Brett Kavanaugh. We hate you! We hate you.”

She then brought on British singer Lily Allen and performed the song, “Fuck You.”

Dua Lipa’s comments came just 48 hours after three people were injured at her show in Toronto after unauthorized fireworks were set off inside Scotiabank Arena. The incident happened as the show was wrapping up with confetti raining down on the crowd. As Lipa was walking back to the stage, loud bangs could be heard in the crowd.

“Last night, unauthorized fireworks went off in the crowd during my set in Toronto,” Lipa said on Instagram. “Creating a safe space at my shows is always my first priority and I’m just as shocked and confused by the events as you all are. I’m so sorry for anyone who was scared, felt unsafe.”
