ITV Confirms ‘Big Brother’ UK Return In 2023

The new series will last up to six weeks featuring live evictions, nominations, and U.K. housemates from “all walks of life”.

(Fwrd Axis) — After nearly five years off the air, Big Brother is about to watch over the U.K. once again.

ITV has officially confirmed Big Brother UK will return in 2023, airing a teaser with the ITV 2 logo and that familiar Big Brother theme tune.

“This refreshed, contemporary new series of Big Brother will contain all the familiar format points that kept viewers engaged and entertained the first time round, but with a brand new look and some additional twists that speak to today’s audience,” said Paul Mortimer, director of reality commissioning & acquisitions and controller, ITV2, ITVBe & CITV.

Big Brother UK first began in 2000 on Channel 4 and turned the late Nikki Grahame, “Nasty” Nick Bateman, and others into household names. Channel 5 took over from 2011 to 2018 with Cameron Cole being the final winner at Elstree Studios before the house was demolished.

The new house will be in a U.K. location and given a contemporary new look. Former show hosts Davina McCall, Emma Willis, and Rylan Clark are not expected to be a part of the reboot.

Back in June, FWRD AXIS News reported that comedian Mo Gilligan was “near the top” of ITV2’s wishlist for the presenter role. The Sun previously reported Big Brother UK will launch in autumn 2023 following the summer series of Love Island as ITV sees the Big Brother brand as a companion rather than a rival.

The new series will last up to six weeks featuring live evictions, nominations, and U.K. housemates from “all walks of life”. ITV has also said fans will be able to “vote throughout the series” and decide the winner.

“Big Brother is the original and best reality format and one that I have never made before so it’s a huge privilege to be making an all-new version with ITV2 and ITVX,” added Natalka Znak, CEO of Initial, Remarkable Entertainment, and Znak TV. “Working with Claire O’Donohoe and the talented team at Initial, Katy Manley and Cat Lynch. This is going to be epic.”
