January 6 Committee Announces Surprise Hearing Set For Tuesday

The hearing is scheduled for Tuesday at 1 p.m. ET, according to an advisory the committee sent out Monday.

WASHINGTON (Fwrd Axis) — The January 6 committee has added a surprise, last-minute public hearing on Tuesday to present new evidence and hear witness testimony, despite previously saying hearings would not start up again until July.

The hearing is scheduled for Tuesday at 1 p.m. ET, according to an advisory the committee sent out Monday. The news comes after Chairman Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) said there would be no other public hearings in June and that the next set of hearings would take place after the Fourth of July holiday.

Two hearings were originally scheduled for this week but were delayed to give the committee more time to review evidence. It was reported last week that the committee was looking into the documentary by British filmmaker Alex Holder.

“The next couple of hearings will cover the run-up to Jan. 6, the marshaling of this mob that appeared on the mall that day, and the attack on the Capitol,” Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) told NBC’s “Meet The Press” on Sunday. “The final hearing will cover what the president was doing and more importantly, what he was not doing as we were being attacked. “Basically, the president’s a flagrant dereliction of duty while the Capitol was being attacked.”

Punchbowl News confirmed late Tuesday that Cassidy Hutchinson, an aide to former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, is expected to testify publicly on Tuesday. Hutchinson was a key witness to several critical events and conversations between former President Donald Trump and Meadows.

The committee has not officially released who the witness is out of precaution for her safety. Hutchinson is seen as a consequential witness due to her closeness to Meadows. Her public testimony would provide key evidence and mark a significant moment in the hearings thus far.

A spokesperson for the committee declined to comment on the Tuesday hearing, which was first reported on by The Washington Post.
