Trump Nominates Tulsi Gabbard And Matt Gaetz To Key Positions

The President-elect’s pick of Gaetz has caused controversy among Senate Republicans.

President-elect Donald Trump nominated former Democratic congresswoman-turned Trump supporter Tulsi Gabbard to be the director of national intelligence. Additionally, Trump also announced his nomination of  Rep. Matt Gaetz to be the next Attorney General — setting off a firestorm of controversy.

Gabbard unsuccessfully ran for president in 2020 and announced in October that she would be joining the Republican Party — supporting Trump in his third run for the White House.

“As a former Candidate for the Democrat Presidential Nomination, she has broad support in both Parties – She is now a proud Republican! I know Tulsi will bring the fearless spirit that has defined her illustrious career to our Intelligence Community, championing our Constitutional Rights, and securing Peace through Strength,” Trump said in a statement.

Gabbard helped Trump in his debate prep before his September debate with Vice President Kamala Harris.

Trump also announced Gaetz as his pick for Attorney General — a move that sent shockwaves on Capitol Hill.

“Matt will end Weaponized Government, protect our Borders, dismantle Criminal Organizations and restore Americans’ badly-shattered Faith and Confidence in the Justice Department,” Trump said in a statement.A loyal ally of Trump, the Florida Congressman is under investigation by the House Ethics Committee for alleged sexual misconduct and illicit drug use. Many of those in the FBI were shocked by the pick, according to sources, given the lies and false conspiracy theories that Gaetz has spread.

Gaetz faces an uphill battle to get confirmed as several Republicans are questioning the decision.

“Gaetz has a better shot at having dinner with Queen Elizabeth II than being confirmed by the senate,” said Rep. Max Miller (R-Ohio).

Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) said she was “shocked” by the pick.

“This shows why the advice and consent process is so important and I’m sure that there will be a lot of questions raised at his hearing,” she said.

Late Wednesday, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.,) said Gaetz has already resigned from Congress.

“He issued his resignation letter effective immediately,” Johnson said.
