“I remind myself every morning: Nothing I say this day will teach me anything. So if I’m going to learn, I must do it by listening.” – Larry King

Larry King, TV giant and longtime CNN host, has passed away at age 87. King was known for his ability to give viewers in-depth profiles of his interview subjects, from presidents to sports stars, not by speaking so much as by adhering to the importance of listening, setting a precedent for interview-formatted programs that followed.

He hosted Larry King Live on CNN and taped over 6,000 episodes of the series before he left the network in 2011. His broadcasting days were far from over, as he continued his work as the host of Larry King Now on Ora TV. His stature, with his trademark hunch, glasses, and a never-ending supply of suspenders was a welcome presence on the television screens of millions during his tenure. His easygoing demeanor made him a joy to watch.

His passing was announced via his official Facebook page.

“With profound sadness, Ora Media announces the death of our co-founder, host and friend Larry King, who passed away this morning at age 87 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. For 63 years and across the platforms of radio, television and digital media, Larry’s many thousands of interviews, awards, and global acclaim stand as a testament to his unique and lasting talent as a broadcaster.”Official Statement, Larry King’s Facebook page

There was no cause of death published as of this writing. King was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, California in December 2020 for COVID-19.

Larry King had many memorable interviews, and for the sake of ending this article on a humorous note, watch the infamous exchange between he and Jerry Seinfeld during an interview in 2007 below.

Rest in peace, Larry King.
