Bronny James, the son of basketball star LeBron James, collapsed during practice at USC Monday and was taken to the hospital, according to a family spokesman.
The 18-year-old James is now in stable condition, according to the family.
“Yesterday while practicing Bronny James suffered a cardiac arrest,” a statement from the family read. “Medical staff was able to treat Bronny and take him to the hospital. He is now in stable condition and no longer in ICU. We ask for respect and privacy for the James family and we will update media when there is more information.”
Buffalo Bills defensive back Damar Hamlin, who went into cardiac arrest during a Monday Night Football game in January, tweeted his prayers for the younger James.
“Prayers to Bronny & The James family as well,” Hamlin posted Tuesday. “Here for you guys just like you have been for me my entire process.”
James was McDonald’s All-American in his senior season in high school and the No. 20 player in the country, according to ESPN projections.
LeBron James has said one of his goals before retirement is to play in the NBA on the same team with his son.
“I need to be on the floor with my boy, I got to be on the floor with Bronny,” James said during an interview with ESPN in January. “I would love to do the whole Ken Griffey Sr. and Jr. thing. That would be ideal for sure.”
