(Fwrd Axis) — Rock singer Meat Loaf has died at age 74, his publicist confirmed early Friday morning.
“Our hearts are broken to announce that the incomparable Meat Loaf passed away tonight with his wife Deborah by his side,” a post published on the singer’s Facebook account said early Friday.
The cause of death was not announced but reports say he died due to severe complications of COVID-19.
Meat Loaf died surrounded by loved ones including his daughters Pearl and Amanda, according to the post.
Meat Loaf, whose real name was Marvin Lee Aday, rose to fame after his debut album “Bat Out of Hell” became the best-selling album of all time. He appeared in the movies “Fight Club,” “Wayne’s World” and “Focus.” His song “I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That)” became a hit and he played Eddie in the cult film “Rocky Horror Picture Show”.
“We know how much he meant to so many of you and we truly appreciate all of the love and support as we move through this time of grief in losing such an inspiring artist and beautiful man,” the post said of the singer.
“We thank you for your understanding of our need for privacy at this time,” it added.
