Trump Says He Had An MRI During Second Walter Reed Visit

An MRI scan uses magnets and radio waves to create detailed images of the inside of the body.

President Donald Trump said on Monday he had undergone an MRI examination during his unexpected second trip to Walter Reed Medical Center, but stopped short of providing details.

Speaking reporters on board Air Force One en route to Tokyo, Trump confirmed he had the MRI when asked.

“We had an MRI, and the machine, you know, the whole thing, and it was perfect,” he said.

However, he did not provide details when asked by reporters.

“Ask the doctors,” he said.

An MRI scan uses magnets and radio waves to create detailed images of the inside of the body. It can be used to monitor a range of conditions, including stroke, tumors, and aneurysms of cerebral vessels.

At 79 years old, Trump was the oldest person to be inaugurated as U.S. president when he retook office in January, and he is the second-oldest person to serve as U.S. president.

Back in July, the White House revealed Trump was experiencing swelling in his legs and bruising on his right hand, after photos circulated, showing the president with swollen ankles and makeup covering the bruise.

The White House released a letter from Trump’s physician, Sean Barbabella, who said tests confirmed the leg swelling was due to “chronic venous insufficiency,” a common condition in people over 70 years old.

Barbabella said the bruising on Trump’s hand was consistent with minor soft tissue irritation from frequent handshaking and aspirin use.

The comments from the president will likely raise new questions about his health. The White House has not disclosed the reason for his unusual second visit, a departure from the traditional presidential physical, which takes place once per year.

“I think they gave you a very conclusive – nobody has ever given you reports like I gave you. And if I didn’t think it was going to be good, either, I would let you know negatively, I wouldn’t run. I’d do something. But the doctor said some of the best reports for the age, some of the best reports they’ve ever seen,” he said.
