In a 2016 testimony under oath, Ghislaine Maxwell said she never saw her then-boyfriend Jeffrey Epstein commit any acts that were “inappropriate underage activities”, unsealed court documents have revealed.
Maxwell’s statements over the course of two days were released by a judge on Thursday in which she claimed to never have seen Epstein commit sexual acts with a minor nor would reveal if she herself was abused by Epstein.
“I am not addressing any questions about consensual adult sex,” she said. “I never saw any inappropriate underage activities with Jeffrey ever. I never observed Jeffrey having sex with a minor.”
The news comes as multiple women have come forward, claiming Epstein sexually abused and exploited them when they were underage. Maxwell was arrested on charges of being a recruiter of teenage girls for her now ex-boyfriend. Some women have said Maxwell herself also abused them but she has denied those claims.
Before his downfall, Epstein had socialized for years with some of the biggest names in Hollywood and politics, including Presidents Donald Trump and Bill Clinton, as well as with Britain’s Prince Andrew.
Epstein was arrested in July 2019 on federal child sex trafficking charges following more than a dozen women coming forward alleging he sexually abused them from 2002 through 2006.
Following his arrest, the 66-year-old was found dead in a Manhattan jail in what has been officially ruled a suicide.
Maxwell was arrested back in the summer for perjury for allegedly lying under oath in addition to being a recruiter for Epstein. She has pleaded not guilty in the case and is being held without bail.
