SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio FC announced on Monday it has named Carlos Llamosa as its next head coach, the third head coach in club history.
Llamosa joins SAFC after spending five seasons as an assistant coach with the Portland Timbers of Major League Soccer. The 55-year-old brings 14 years of experience across multiple divisions from the North American Soccer League to Major League Soccer.
“We are happy to welcome Carlos Llamosa to the SAFC family as our new head coach,” said SAFC Sporting Director Marco Ferruzzi. “Carlos brings a pedigree of winning and success as a player and coach at the highest level of our domestic game. He has a deep understanding of the professional pathway for players in this country and has developed and worked with top players. As we celebrate our 10th season, we look forward to starting our new era with Carlos on the sidelines.”
While Llamosa has experience as an assistant coach with Chivas USA, New England Revolution, and the Portland Timbers (MLS), as well as the New York Cosmos (NASL), San Antonio FC will be the first team he will be the head coach of.
“I’m very excited for the opportunity to be part of this amazing family at one of the best organizations in the country,” said Llamosa. “Together with the front office and technical staff, I look forward to putting together a top team in the league, and I can’t wait to experience the atmosphere our fans will create at our first game.”
Llamosa takes over for Alen Marcina, who was fired after the 2024 season. Marcina led San Antonio to the 2022 USL Championship title, the first championship in club history.
San Antonio FC will return to action in 2025 for its 10th anniversary season.
