Musician Joseph “Jo Mersa” Marley, the grandson of reggae icon Bob Marley, has died at the age of 31.
Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness confirmed the news on Twitter, expressing his condolences to Marley’s friends, associates, and fans, as well as the reggae music community. While an official cause of death has yet to be announced, it has been reported that Marley was found in his car and may have died from an asthma attack.
Marley was born in Jamaica to musician Stephen Marley, but later moved to Florida, where he attended Miami Dade College and studied studio engineering. He released his first EP, “Comfortable,” in 2014, and his second, “Eternal,” in 2021. According to his Instagram, his last performance was in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on November 13th.
Marley’s untimely passing is a loss to the music industry and a reminder of the fragility of life. May he find eternal peace and may his family and loved ones find comfort in this difficult time.
