Hurricane Francine Makes Landfall In Louisiana As Category 2 Storm

Hurricane Francine made landfall as a Category 2 storm on Wednesday afternoon, just 30 miles south-southwest of Morgan City.

The maximum sustained winds are estimated to be near 100 mph, the National Hurricane Center said.

Police Capt. John Schaff said the city is starting to see strong winds.

“Abide by curfew, it’s not safe,” Schaff said.

“We’re starting to get some of the first bands coming through. And so we’re just getting everybody hunkered down and getting people to get to safety,” he said. “We opened our shelter last night and then we issued the curfew at 8 a.m. this morning, going to 8 a.m. tomorrow morning.”
