WASHINGTON — Hunter Biden made a surprise appearance on Capitol Hill Wednesday as the House committee held a hearing focused on whether to hold him in contempt.
The move set up an unprecedented standoff on live television between President Joe Biden‘s son and House Republicans, who have opened investigations into the Biden’s and several members of the President’s cabinet.
House Republicans on the Oversight and Judiciary Committees were outraged with the move as Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) called for Hunter Biden’s arrest on the spot for defying the congressional subpoena.
“You’re the epitome of white privilege, coming into the Oversight Committee, spitting in our face, ignoring a congressional subpoena to be deposed. What are you afraid of?” Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) said.
Democrat Jared Moskowitz cut Mace off, saying they could “hear from Hunter right now” and called for a vote to have him speak.
Hunter Biden was accompanied by his lawyer Abbe Lowell and Kevin Morris, a confidant who helped Hunter Biden pay back taxes and penalties to the IRS.
Biden got up to leave the room when it was Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s (R-Ga.) turn to speak.
“Excuse me, Hunter, apparently you’re afraid of my words,” Greene said.
Greene displayed sexually explicit images of Hunter Biden during a previous hearing last year, sparking outrage from both Democrats and Republicans.
“I would like to let the committee and everyone watching at home know that parental discretion is advised,” Greene warned. She then showed the images and suggested without any evidence that they showed Hunter Biden “making pornography”.
Wednesday saw Democrats respond to Greene’s move.
“I think it’s really interesting to hear the gentlelady from Georgia speak about Hunter Biden leaving when she is the one who showed nude photos of Hunter Biden in this very committee room,” Rep. Mike Garcia (D-Calif.) said.
In an effort to ‘own’ Hunter Biden, they are assembling nude photos of him, having some intern have to sit in a room and blow up these photos and put it on poster boards and figure out, ‘Oh, which ones are beyond the pale?’” Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.) said.
Biden’s attorney spoke to reporters and said Hunter Biden is being used to attack his father, the President, in an election year.
“Hunter Biden was and is a private citizen. Despite this, Republicans have sought to use him as a surrogate to attack his father,” Lowell said.
Lowell accused Republicans of caring “little about the truth” and trying to “hold someone in contempt who has offered to publicly answer all their proper questions.”
The committee has also subpoenaed President Biden’s brother, James Biden, and former Hunter Biden business associate Rob Walker.
