Pat Sajak, the host of the syndicated game show “Wheel of Fortune”, announced Monday the show’s upcoming 40th season will be his last.

Taking to Twitter, Sajak confirmed that he plans to step down next year.

“Well, the time has come. I’ve decided that our 41st season, which begins in September, will be my last,” Sajak said. “It’s been a wonderful ride, and I’ll have more to say in the coming months.

“Many thanks to you all.”

The 76-year-old began hosting the show back in 1981 alongside co-host Vanna White. The pair have been a part of American families evenings ever since, becoming a television staple alongside the quiz contest “Jeopardy!”

Sajak and Sony Pictures Television did not comment on the matter nor say who would replace the host.

The replacement will need to go more smoothly than when Sony attempted to fill “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek’s shoes after his death in 2020. Mike Richards, the show’s producer, was tapped to replace Trebek but he stepped down after it was revealed he made sexist comments years earlier.
