Biden Tells Al Sharpton He Will Run For Re-Election In 2024

The news comes just weeks after Biden appeared on CBS’ 60 Minutes and appeared to downplay his chances of seeking re-election.

WASHINGTON (Fwrd Axis) — President Joe Biden told the Rev. Al Sharpton he will run for President again in 2024 in a private conversation at the White House last month as speculation continues over Biden’s political future.

“I’m going to do it again,” Biden reportedly said. “I’m going.”

In an interview with ABC News last year, Biden was asked by David Muir if he intended to run again in 2024. “Yes. But look, I’m a great respecter of fate — fate has intervened in my life many, many times. If I’m in the health I’m in now — I’m in good health — then, in fact, I would run again,” he responded.

When he was on the campaign trail, Biden said he wanted to be a “transition candidate” between the older and younger such as Vice President Kamala Harris and Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg.

“Look, I view myself as a bridge, not as anything else,” Biden said in March 2020. “There’s an entire generation of leaders you saw stand behind me. They are the future of this country.”

Bloomberg reported back in August that Biden’s determination to seek a second term comes as Trump teases another run for office amid several investigations regarding his role in the Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection and Republicans still holding a strong view of him. Earlier this week, FBI agents searched Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida and uncovered a trove of classified materials.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre declined to answer when asked if Biden will seek re-election but repeated her prior comments about the President’s intentions.

“The president has said this himself: He intends to run in 2024,” she said. “I will just reiterate what the president has said many times … is that the president intends to [run].”

The news comes just weeks after Biden appeared on CBS’ 60 Minutes and appeared to downplay his chances of seeking re-election, casting doubt, once again, on his political future.

“Look, my intention, as I said to begin with, is that I would run again,” Biden said. “But it’s just an intention. But is it a firm decision that I run again? That remains to be seen.”
