Piers Morgan Joins Fox News After Inking Global Mega Deal

Morgan inked a global mega-deal with Rupert Murdoch’s Fox News and News Corp, which will see him host a daily TV show that will air on weeknights in the U.K., U.S., and Australia.

Controversial British journalist Piers Morgan is returning to American television seven years after his CNN show was canceled.

Morgan inked a global mega-deal with Rupert Murdoch’s Fox News and News Corp, which will see him host a daily TV show that will air on weeknights in the U.K., U.S., and Australia, write a weekly column in the British tabloid The Sun as well as The New York Post.

“I’m thrilled to be returning to News Corp, which is where I began my media career more than 30 years ago,” Morgan said. “Rupert Murdoch has been a constant and fearless champion of free speech and we are going to be building something new and very exciting together. I want my global show to be a fearless forum for lively debate and agenda-setting interviews, and a place that celebrates the right of everyone to have an opinion, and for those opinions to be vigorously examined and challenged.

“I’m also delighted to become a columnist for The Sun and the New York Post, two brilliantly successful and popular newspaper brands,” Morgan added. “I’m going home and we’re going to have some fun.”

Morgan’s new TV show will air on the streaming platform Fox Nation in the U.S., talkTV in the U.K., and Sky News Australia. The 56-year-old replaced Larry King on CNN in 2011, getting his own show Piers Morgan Tonight. The show was canceled after three years due to low ratings, attracting just 81,000 among adults 25–54—its lowest ratings to date.

Following his stint on CNN, Morgan returned to the U.K. and became the co-presenter of Good Morning Britain on ITV with Susanna Reid in 2015. Morgan’s addition brought record ratings on multiple occasions, earning the show multiple awards.

Morgan quit the show earlier this year after he stormed off set over backlash due to comments he made about Megan Markle’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey. An angry Morgan said he didn’t believe Markle’s claims about her mental health while in the Royal Family and that she experienced suicidal thoughts.

“Piers is the broadcaster every channel wants but is too afraid to hire,” Murdoch said in a statement. “Piers is a brilliant presenter, a talented journalist and says what people are thinking and feeling. He has many passionate fans around the world and we look forward to expanding his audience in the U.K., at Fox Nation, Sky News Australia, The Sun, and the New York Post.”
