No. 10 Incarnate Word Routs Northern Colorado For First Win Of 2023 Season

GREELEY, Colo. (Fwrd Axis) — The Incarnate Word Cardinals earned their first win of the Clint Killough era with a 42-7 rout over the University of Northern Colorado Bears on the road Saturday afternoon.

The Story: After opening the season with a loss to UTEP in El Paso, UIW’s offense lit up the Bears for 42 points.

  • Cardinals quarterback Zach Calzada finished the game with 255 passing yards and three touchdowns, completing 23 of his 32 passes.
  • The win was Killough’s first as UIW head coach.
  • UIW quarterbacks Ryan Stubblefield and Richard Torres both saw action with the game in hand.

Defense dominates: The Cardinals’ defense dominated from the opening kick.

  • Tyler Foster had 11 tackles, while Steven Parker finished with three tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.
  • UIW’s Tre Richardson had an interception on the first drive of the game.

Up Next: The UIW Cardinals are now 1-1 on the season and will return to the field next Saturday when they face Abilene Christian University at 4 p.m. to close out their three-game road trip.
