Harris Concedes At Howard University, Urging Americans To Not Give Up

The Vice President attempted to console her supporters and other Democrats in attendance.

WASHINGTON — Vice President Kamala Harris conceded the election on Wednesday afternoon, offering a message of hope for the future in an attempt to uplift their spirits following a shocking defeat.

“Earlier today, I spoke with President-elect Trump and congratulated him on his victory. I also told him that we will help him and his team with their transition, and that we will engage in a peaceful transfer of power,” Harris said

“The outcome of this election is not what we wanted, not what we fought for, not what we voted for, but hear me when I say … the light of America’s promise will always burn bright,” she added.

The Vice President attempted to console her supporters and other Democrats in attendance after they lost the White House to Donald Trump as well as losing the Senate to Republicans, who are also looking poised to keep the House of Representatives.

Harris’ concession capped a whirlwind of a campaign as after she replaced President Joe Biden at the top of the Democratic ticket just four months before Election Day.

Her loss signified a realignment in the Democratic coalition, with Trump expanding his reach among new parts of the electorate, including Latinos and Black men. Trump’s win comes despite him doubling down on violent and dark rhetoric that has become the center of MAGA politics since Trump entered the political arena in 2016.

With America facing an uncertain future, Harris offered words of hope for the country as well as her supporters.

“I know many people feel like we are entering a dark time, but for the benefit of us all, I hope that is not the case,” Harris added. “But here’s the thing, America: If it is, let us fill the sky with the light of a brilliant, brilliant billion of stars, the light of optimism, of faith, of truth and service. And may that work guide us, even in the face of setbacks, toward the extraordinary promise of the United States of America.”
