Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight will have to wait a little longer to return to Gotham after it was confirmed Friday that the highly anticipated sequel for The Batman was delayed a second time.
The Batman Part II — which still does not have an official title — was set to arrive in October 2025 before it was postponed to October 2026 earlier this year.
Variety first reported the Robert Pattinson-led sequel has been delayed and rescheduled for release on October 1, 2027.
Warner Bros. confirmed the news with a schedule release as another Pattinson-led movie, the sci-fi film Mickey 17, has been moved from April 2025 to March 2025. Taking the place of Batman Part II is a new movie starring Tom Cruise about “the most powerful man in the world” as he “embarks on a frantic mission to prove he is humanity’s savior before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything.”
DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn also confirmed the delay in a reply to a fan on Threads, saying Reeves wants to get the script correct.
“Sure. Yes, it is true,” Gunn said. “The only reason for the delay is there isn’t a full script (those of you who follow me here probably know that already). Matt is committed to making the best film he possibly can, and no one can accurately guess exactly how long a script will take to write. Once there is a finished script, there is around two years for pre-production, shooting and post-production on big films.”
The Batman was released in 2022, earning $772 million worldwide. The film starred Pattinson alongside Zoe Kravitz, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright, John Turturro, Peter Sarsgaard, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell.
Farrell also starred in the Max series, The Penguin, which broke records for viewership for the streamer.
