Vice President JD Vance said Thursday the woman fatally shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer in Minneapolis on Wednesday was “brainwashed,” linking her, without evidence, to a “broader, left-wing network.”
Speaking at the White House briefing room, an angry Vance raised his voice in anger, and lectured the media for its coverage of the incident.
“I’m not happy that this woman was there at a protest violating the law by interfering with the law enforcement action,” Vance added. “I think that we can all recognize that the best way to turn down the temperature is to tell people to take their concerns about immigration policy to the ballot box. Stop assaulting and stop inciting violence against our law enforcement officers. That’s the best way to take down the temperature … We’re not going to give in to terrorism on this and that’s exactly what’s happened.”
The video of the incident has gone viral. President Donald Trump, Vance, and other high-ranking members of the administration are saying the footage shows the shooting was justified.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, a Democrat, called the claims “bullshit” while Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz accused the administration of promoting “propaganda.”
“If the media wants to tell the truth,” Vance added, “they ought to tell the truth that a group of left-wing radicals have been working tirelessly, sometimes using domestic terror techniques to try to make it impossible for the president of the United States to do what the American people elected him to do, which is enforce our immigration laws.”
There has been no evidence released tying Good to left-wing groups.
The reason this woman is dead is because she tried to ram somebody with her car, and that guy acted in self-defense. That is why she lost her life, and that is a tragedy,” Vance said.
