Poll: Trump’s Approval Rating Falls To Record Low As Americans Blame GOP For Shutdown

The new poll numbers show some warning signs for the president and his party ahead of Tuesday’s elections.

Half of Americans say the Trump administration is not committed to protecting Americans’ rights and freedoms, according to an ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll released on Sunday.

The poll shows the majority of Americans feel President Donald Trump is not interested in protecting freedom of the press, freedom of speech, a fair criminal justice system, or free and fair elections. About half say he is not committed to protecting freedom of religion.

Most Republicans say Trump is committed to all of the rights that were polled, while most Democrats and independents say he is not committed to any of them — except for owning firearms.

Meanwhile, Americans are split over whether the Democratic Party is committed to a fair criminal justice system. And most Americans (60% or more) say Democrats are not committed to protecting the freedom to own firearms.

According to an NBC News poll, the president’s overall approval rating sits at 43%, while 55% disapprove of his job performance.

The Democrats’ eight-point lead on the congressional ballot is among the largest advantages they have enjoyed in any public polling in 2025.

A majority of voters still have negative views of the Democratic Party, and just 28% say they have positive views.

The new poll numbers show some warning signs for the president and his party ahead of Tuesday’s elections in Virginia, California, and New York in the first elections since Trump retook office in January.

On the economy, Trump and his administration are struggling to meet people’s needs on the cost of living, looking out for the middle class (65%), and the economy.

Democrats have an 8-point edge on protecting constitutional rights and an 11-point edge on protecting democracy.
