Trump Expected To Nominate Marco Rubio As Secretary Of State

Rubio is a member of the Foreign Relations Committee.

President-elect Donald Trump is expected to nominate Florida Sen. Marco Rubio for secretary of state in his administration, according to sources familiar.

The New York Times first reported Trump’s plans to select Rubio to be secretary of state.

During the campaign, Trump repeatedly sign he would implement “America First” policies — which means less foreign aid to countries while trying to withdraw U.S. involvement in current world conflicts.

Despite Rubio being a hardcore Trump ally, there was some disagreement among Trump’s core base. One source described the decision as the “less MAGA” option, which caused disagreements.

Rubio is a member of the Foreign Relations Committee and is respected among members of the Senate.

One of the other names on the list is Ric Grenell, the controversial ambassador to Germany during Trump’s first term, which led many to be concerned about the State Department’s becoming politicized.

If Rubio becomes secretary of state, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis would get to choose a replacement.
