Jan. 6 Committee Hits 10 More Trump Officials With Subpoenas

McEnany, who served as the White House press secretary from April 2020 until Trump left office, was with the former President on the day of the attack.

WASHINGTON (Fwrd Axis) — The House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol issued 10 more subpoenas on Tuesday to former Trump officials, including Kayleigh McEnany and Stephen Miller.

McEnany, who served as the White House press secretary from April 2020 until Trump left office, was with former President Donald Trump on the day of the attack. Miller, who was a senior adviser to Trump, continued to spread misinformation about voter fraud in the 2020 election and was involved in efforts to overturn the election results in several states.

“We believe the witnesses subpoenaed today have relevant information and we expect them to comply fully with the Select Committee’s investigation as we work to get answers for the American people,” said Select Committee Chair Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) in a statement.

In the letter addressed to McEnany, the committee says they have “revealed credible evidence of your involvement in the events within the scope of the Select Committee’s inquiry.”

The committee points to comments the 33-year-old made while she was White House press secretary as evidence. “You claimed that there ‘very real claim’ of fraud that the Trump re-election campaign was pursuing, and said that mail-in voting was one that ‘we have identified as being particularly prone to fraud,’” the committee wrote.

The latest batch of subpoenas come less than 24 hours after the committee issued subpoenas to several Trump campaign aides who supported Trump’s effort to overturn the 2020 election.

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) said last week the panel has interviewed over 150 people.

We need to know precisely what role the former President and his aides played in efforts to stop the counting of the electoral votes and if they were in touch with anyone outside the White House attempting to overturn the outcome of the election,” Thompson said.

“We believe the witnesses subpoenaed today have relevant information and we expect them to comply fully with the Select Committee’s investigation as we work to get answers for the American people, make recommendations on changes to the law to protect our democracy, and help ensure that nothing like January 6th ever happens again.”
