WASHINGTON (Fwrd Axis) — The House select committee investigating the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol announced its next public hearing will take place on Tuesday, July 12.
The news comes after the committee canceled one of its hearings last week to give the panel more time to prepare. Tuesday’s hearing is scheduled for 10 AM ET, FWRD AXIS News confirmed.
The committee held six hearings last month and presented evidence that former President Donald Trump tried to overturn the results of the 2020 election — including pressuring state, local and federal officials, including then-Vice President Mike Pence and Justice Department leaders.
Most recently, the committee heard testimony from Trump White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson, the former aide to then-Trump Chief of Staff Mark Meadows. She testified how Trump and his inner circle were warned about the potential for violence on January 6 but shrugged it off, allowing things to proceed.
The news comes after Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), who serves as the vice-chair on the panel, said on ABC’s “This Week” that the committee could make multiple criminal referrals to federal prosecutors involving Trump and his allies.
“The Justice Department doesn’t have to wait for the committee to make a criminal referral, and there could be more than one criminal referral,” she said.
When asked if she is concerned that Donald Trump is reportedly readying up to announce another bid for office, Cheney shrugged it off.
“I have greater concern about what it would mean if people weren’t held accountable for what’s happened here,” she said.
