(Fwrd Axis) — Jordan Elsass is leaving his role as Jonathan Kent on Superman & Lois after two seasons, Warner Bros. Television announced late Tuesday night. The show will recast the role before beginning production on the upcoming third season.
“Jordan Elsass has notified the Studio that he will not be returning to ‘Superman & Lois’ for Season 3 due to personal reasons,” Warner Bros. Television said in a statement. “The role of Jonathan Kent will be recast.”
Deadline was the first to report of Elsass departing the series. The outlet reports that a decision was made after Elsass did not show up for work in Vancouver on the date the cast was required to reconvene. It is not currently clear if Elsass was fired or left on his own. A source told Deadline that Elsass has been dealing with some serious personal issues, possibly related to mental health. Production was made aware of those when the actor did not show up for work.
Elsass nor his team have commented on the actor’s abrupt exit from the show.
Superman & Lois was not on The CW’s fall schedule when it was announced back in May with the network holding it back along with veteran shows The Flash and Riverdale, which will begin their final seasons.
“We certainly want to fold Jonathan more into the superhero stories,” Superman & Lois showrunner Todd Helbing told Entertainment Weekly about Season 3. “What Clark says to him about the Kryptonian tech, you could take that in many different ways, so we’ll see which road we ultimately go down.”
Superman & Lois stars Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch as Clark Kent and Lois Lane. Alex Garfin as Jordan Kent, Emmanuelle Chriqui as Lana Lang, Wolé Parks as John Henry Irons, and Inde Navarrette as Sarah Cushing.
Superman & Lois returns to The CW in 2023 for Season 3.
