Elon Musk said Sunday in a series of tweets he is planning to change Twitter’s iconic bird logo to an “X” logo.
The Story: Musk had said the change would happen Monday, marking yet another controversial change since he took over as owner of the social media platform.
- Musk changed Twitter’s official name to “X” in April as he attempts to turn Twitter into what he calls a “Super App” that hosts video streaming and group chats.
- “Yeah we’re cutting the Twitter logo off the building with blow torches,” Musk said Sunday on a Twitter Space.
- Musk then pinned a flickering, glowing X to his Twitter account
Why it matters: Musk said the change to “X” is “To embody the imperfections in us all that make us unique.”
Searching for new: Since Musk took over Twitter, users have been searching for an alternative to the platform.
- Several websites including Spoutible and Bluesky launched but neither have gained enough traction.
- Meta launched its Threads app a month early and has several missing features, which has driven some users back to Musk’s Twitter.
