Biden To Welcome Trump To The White House On Wednesday

The two will meet in the Oval Office at 11 a.m.

President Joe Biden and President-elect Donald Trump will meet at the White House on Wednesday morning, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre announced on Saturday.

The two will meet in the Oval Office at 11 a.m. and more details will be announced later.

The news comes four days after Trump defeated Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential election.

The Trump transition team did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Both Biden and Harris have said they are committed to a peaceful transition of power. During her concession speech, Harris told her supporters, “Earlier today, I spoke with President-elect Trump and congratulated him on his victory. I also told him that we will help him and his team with their transition and that we will engage in a peaceful transfer of power.”

Speaking on Thursday from the Rose Garden, Biden committed to the same, saying it is one of the most important duties as President.

“I will do my duty as president: I will fulfill my oath and I will honor the Constitution. On Jan. 20, we’ll have a peaceful transfer of power here in America,” he said.

Biden will be giving Trump a peaceful transition, something Trump did not do for him. After losing the election in 2020, the Trump administration delayed the transition and spent weeks fighting the Biden team’s efforts to begin transition work.

This led up a violent mob of Trump supporters storming the Capitol on January 6, 2021 in an attempt to stop Congress from certifying Biden’s victory. Only after did then-President Trump agree to an orderly and peaceful transfer of power.
