After the media storm following the reveal of a pinnacle scene involving a rather compromising situation for President Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani in the newly released Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, one man has come forward to defend the former New York City Mayor: Borat Sagdiyev.
In a tweet by the famed #4 journalist from Kazakhstan, Borat states,
“I here to defend America’s mayor Rudolph Giuliani. What was an innocent sexy-time encounter between a consenting man and my 15-year-old daughter has been turned into something disgusting by fake news media. I warn you, anyone else tries this and Rudolph will not hesitate to reach into his legal briefs and whip out his subpoenas.”
The sequel to the 2006 film, Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan is very much a film that has many funny moments and some uncomfortable moments. Overall, though, the film contains lessons within that call out issues in racism, sexism, and holds a mirror up to society – blemishes and all.
Love him or hate him, Sacha Baron Cohen – through his characterization and planning – has once again created a winning film. Looking past the overt silliness of the character of Borat and the presence of satirical “mockumentary”-style presentation, Borat Subsequent Moviefilm gives audiences something to think about in the current climate and that, in itself, is very niiice.
