WASHINGTON (Fwrd Axis) — Former President Barack Obama will return to the White House on Tuesday for the first time since he left the office for an event to promote the Affordable Care Act alongside President Joe Biden, a White House official said.
Obama, Biden, and Vice President Kamala Harris will all give remarks on the expansion of health care benefits under the law as well as how the Biden administration will reduce health care costs and expand access to care.
A White House official said Biden, Obama, and Harris “will deliver remarks celebrating the success of the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid in extending affordable health insurance to millions of Americans as a part of the President’s agenda to cut costs for American families.”
“The President will take additional action to further strengthen the ACA and save families hundreds of dollars a month on their health care,” the official added.
NBC was the first to report the news of Obama’s return to the White House.
Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra along with other members of Biden’s cabinet are expected to attend the ceremony as well.
The event will mark the first time Biden and Obama are together since the September 11 anniversary memorial in New York late last year. It also marks the first time the pair have appeared together in Washington since Biden was inaugurated in January 2021.
Obama endorsed Biden for President and the two promoted affordable health care in a video posted on social media late last year.
“Joe Biden, we did this together. We always talked about how if we could get the principle of universal coverage established, we could then build on it,” Obama said in the video.
Biden is expected to welcome the former president back to the White House later in the year for the unveiling of the official White House portrait.
