(Fwrd Axis) — Big Brother Australia is just one week away and Channel 7 on Monday announced some tweaks to the format as well as the cast that will compete to win the $250,000 prize.
A total of 21 housemates, ranging in age from 22-52 will be entering the house throughout the season as they live together for a total of 62 days. The two-hour premiere on May 9 will see 11 new housemates enter the game as well as four housemates of the past, dubbed “Big Brother Royalty”.
Sonia Kruger returns as the host.
So, what are the format changes? First, we start with what’s staying put. The nominations challenges will see all housemates compete, and not only will the winner be safe from eviction, but they’ll also be the only one with the power to nominate three fellow housemates.
House nominations are also returning with the housemates nominating whoever they want for eviction.
So, what’s new? Taking elements from the American format, the Australian version will introduce the Head of House, similar to the Head of Household. Each week the housemates will vote for one person to hold power in the game. HOH will be safe from eviction all week. They will also have exclusive access to the HOH Suite with two housemates of their choice. Once in the suite, they will be given a unique and strategic power during the week, to influence the game and the nominations.
Also new is the ability for the nominated housemates to try and save themselves from eviction (think the Power of Veto in the U.S.). The nominated housemates will compete in the Second Chance Challenge, requiring courage, strength, and smarts to conquer, as the nominees battle it out with absolute desperation and determination.
Last but not least is the return of themed weeks. In 2022, fans can expect to see Battle Week, Party Week, Hacked Week, and Temptation Week.
Big Brother Australia returns on May 9 on Channel 7 and 7Plus.
