Frustrations Boil Over In Trump’s Lunch Meeting With Republicans

WASHINGTON — As President Donald Trump made his way to Capitol Hill for a lunch meeting with Senate Republicans on Wednesday, frustration was already simmering beneath the surface. By the time he stepped into the room, tensions were high, and his patience was wearing thin.

What began as a routine meeting quickly spiraled into a confrontation. Voices rose as Trump and Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) exchanged heated words, and the discussion soon devolved into a shouting match, underscoring the deep frustrations and political stakes surrounding the issues on the table.

The atmosphere grew increasingly tense, said a source who spoke with FWRD AXIS News on the condition of anonymity, as Trump and Cassidy clashed back and forth.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune tried to break up the discussion, and other senators attempted to calm the situation down over the resolution, which limits Trump’s ability to carry on the war in Iran.

Cassidy was one of four GOP senators who voted with Democrats in favor of the resolution that the House had passed earlier this month.

Trump called Cassidy a “lunatic,” according to multiple sources. Cassidy referred to the president as “brother,” prompting Trump to reply that he wasn’t his “brother.”

After the meeting, Cassidy confirmed the heated meeting.

“I make no apologies for standing up to the president, if you will, trying to demand that more information be shared with the Senate and more information be shared with the American people,” he told reporters. “I make no apologies for that.”

“And if someone tries to bully me into not asking that question, I’m not going to accept that either,” Cassidy added. “I am sticking up for the American people, even if I’m speaking to the president.”

Cassidy has been one the most vocal about Trump’s deal with Iran, writing on X last week that the agreement was “the worst foreign policy blunder in decades.”

Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) told reporters that Trump was “mad as a murder hornet” about the war powers vote.

“And I don’t blame him. Put yourself in his shoes,” Kennedy said. “He’s right in the middle of delicate negotiations and the Senate votes to get out of Iran. And it upset him.”

Tensions were already high after Trump canceled the signing of a bipartisan housing bill due to his demands to pass the SAVE America Act, which would require proof of citizenship and photo identification to vote, restrict mail-in voting, prohibit transgender women from playing in men’s sports and ban transgender surgery for children.

No, I’m not going to be bullied when I’m trying to get information for the American people,” he said. “This is not about me, it’s not about the president, it’s about the American people knowing what’s going on, and right now there’s just like it seems like we’re being told different things by different people.”
